How long does the Accelerator last?
Your membership to the Accelerator lasts 6 months from the day of your onboarding call with your account manager.
Do I need to have a certain number of subscribers to join?
No. We do recommend that you have a channel set up but over the last three years, we’ve worked with a whole range of people from those with zero subscribers to channels with over 400k. The aim of the Accelerator is to help everyone move their channels forward regardless of what stage of the journey they’re at.
I’ve made 100 videos already, is the Accelerator for me?
Of course 🙂 The Accelerator is aimed at creators of all abilities. Having 100 videos provides you with a really solid foundation to grow, monetise and scale your channel and we hope we can help you do that through the lessons in the course material, and through the support network you’ll have access to.
What is the minimum equipment required to join?
There are no requirements for equipment and gear. All you need is something to film with so your phone is perfectly fine, that’s how I started back in 2017.
Do I need to attend all the calls?
Definitely not. This is a Part-Time Accelerator and therefore it’s designed in a way that you can fit it into your already busy calendar and get the most out of it without attending all of the live Q&A sessions, masterminds and office hours. We’ll encourage you to pick the ones that strike your interest and attend those. You can always watch the rest using your lifetime access to the recordings.
How involved will Ali be in the Accelerator?
I’ll host one live Q&A session every month where we’ll have an open forum for you to ask me your questions. On top of that, we also have additional workshops (both live and recorded) where some of my internet and YouTube friends will provide extra teaching. You’ll also be in the Slack channels where you’ll have access to my team to chat about ideas you’ve got for your videos or problems you encounter over the course of the 6 months you’re working with us.
Will the timings work for me?
We schedule all our sessions around a set hour of 4pm BST as this time suits the majority of our students. If this time doesn’t work for you, due to your timezone or job, please bear this in mind as it will be more difficult for you to take advantage of our office hours and Ali’s Q&As. Your creator coach will be happy to work around your schedule for 1:1 calls but our main group sessions are scheduled to suit the majority of our students.
Is the Accelerator the only way to learn more about building a successful YouTube channel from you?
Nope. There are two different ways to get involved with the Part-Time YouTuber ecosystem – (1) our Part-Time YouTuber Academy, a self-serve course with the full curriculum (plus bonus sessions) from our live Cohorts or (2) the Part-Time YouTuber Accelerator.
We’ll also still be continuing to hold live in-person events and other cool sessions for our PTYA Community.
Do I need to have a YouTube channel?
No, it’s not compulsory but I’d recommend that you set up a channel before your onboarding call so you’re ready to make the most of it.
What experience with YouTube do I need to have?
No past experience with YouTube is required, you just need the desire to make YouTube part of your future. However, you do stand to make the most out of the Accelerator immediately if you’re at least up and running with your video production. If you’re a complete beginner, you might benefit more from our Part-Time YouTuber Foundations course, or our Part-Time YouTuber Academy.
What sort of channel is the Accelerator suitable for?
The Accelerator isn’t tailored to any specific genre/style of video. That being said, educational channels (where the objective is to ‘educate’ rather than ‘entertain) are particularly ideal. Still, if your videos try to provide value to your audience, the exact type of your channel won’t matter. In fact, I think the system and processes we teach can be applied to any genre of video and we’ll be on hand to help make sure that you feel able to apply these methods if you encounter any issues.
My channel isn’t in English. Is the Accelerator still suitable for me?
100%. We’ve worked with a whole bunch of students who make videos in languages other than English. You’ll still benefit from all of the course material and the principles we’re teaching – and we’ll still be able to give you video feedback. Our Student Supporters speak a variety of languages, so there’s a chance they’ll be able to understand the script of your video, but worst case they’ll still be able to give you feedback on your title, thumbnail, production quality, editing, B-roll, and much more. The only thing to note is that the feedback you receive, and the conversations we’ll have through Slack etc will be in English.
Is the Accelerator a live cohort?
No, the Accelerator is not a live cohort course. There are multiple live sessions per week with the team and a live session with Ali every month but the course modules are part of a self-paced course. Do I need to know how to edit videos to get the most from the Accelerator?
Yes and no. You do need to edit your videos so prior experience will be beneficial but for everyone that doesn’t have editing skills, we’ll have some video editing crash courses in our pre-recorded material you can watch. Plus, you’ll get access to a free video class – ‘Video Editing with Final Cut Pro X – From Beginner to YouTuber’. You don’t need to be able to edit well, but you do need to be able to put a video together so that you can make the most of the fortnightly video feedback.
